Wooded Island Bird Walk

  • Wooded Island, Jackson Park Meet at the west side of the Columbia Basin Chicago, IL, 60637 United States (map)

Photo: Black and white warbler by Robert Cook

Hello everyone,

It was a beautiful early fall day and migration is now in full swing. The thrushes and the warblers have arrived and were scattered about the island. We had numerous species of sparrows too, and a Red-headed Woodpecker was seen in the oak grove.

A red-shouldered hawk perched on the big dead tree on the island and two of our resident juvenile Cooper’s Hawks were present. We had the always desired heron trifecta, but we also had a vireo trifecta today with Philadelphia, Warbling and Red-eyed visitors.
