Join CBA as we venture to DuPage looking for shorebirds and nighthawks! On this trip we will meet at Wood Dale Reservoir, DuPage County's premier shorebirding location about 2 hours before sunset. This will give us plenty of time to walk around the paved trails and check for migratory shorebirds like Least Sandpipers, Semipalmated Sandpipers, yellowlegs, among many others that might drop in during the evening hours. Then as the evening progresses we will stake out a location to watch migratory Common Nighthawks start to head south.

The Chicago Bird Alliance is hosting a webinar on the Rat Contraceptive Pilot Program on Wednesday, July 30th from 6-7 pm Central. Project leaders will be on hand to answer questions, and to describe the dangers of rat poison and the alternative of contraceptives to control the rat population. The public is invited to learn more. The pilot study will cover 4 blocks in Lincoln Park, the neighborhood where the owl family died last year.

Bring binoculars if you have them or let us know in advance if you’d like to borrow a pair. All experience levels welcome!

Not an early bird? Join the Chicago Bird Alliance for an evening bird walk at Linne Woods, a beautiful oak-hickory forest along the north branch of the Chicago River with an adjacent prairie. We will search for spring migrants as well as breeding birds, including Wood Thrush, Scarlet Tanager, Indigo Bunting, and Barred Owl.

The Illinois Spring Bird Count (ISBC) is a yearly bird count that consists of volunteers conducting bird censuses in all 102 counties in Illinois. The research derived from this count is important in helping understand the impact of climate change on birds, and changes in bird populations statewide.
