Northerly Island Bird Outing

  • Northerly Island 1521 South Linn White Drive Chicago, IL, 60605 United States (map)

Join us for an outing at Northerly Island, a peninsula located on the Lake Michigan lakefront in Chicago. Formerly Meigs Field airport, the area underwent a decade-long restoration project led by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Today the park is a beautiful grassland oasis benefiting wildlife like birds, fish, insects and mammals in an urban environment.

October is an excellent month for passerine migrants at Northerly Island. Target birds will include Nelson’s and LeConte’s sparrows.

Registration is required.

Meeting spot: We will meet in parkmobile zone 1818, the lot adjacent to and north of the visitor center (1521 S Linn White Drive).

Coordinates: 41.8611200, -87.6100592.
Note that the parking rate is $2/hour for or people with the Chicago parking app.
