Last week's American Birding Association podcast, “#BlackBirdersWeek and Its Impact”, with Corina Newsome and Tykee James,’ is a ‘must hear’ for every one of us who care about birds.
Nate's guests talk about their own experiences as Black birders, how Black Birders Week took shape in record time, and the incredible public response.
They offer tips and guides that we can use right now, to be sure equity and inclusion are part of our programs and birding behavior. Chicago Audubon Society believes that each one of us has a responsibility to learn from these incidents so that our own behavior becomes more genuinely welcoming, and that we challenge ourselves to act against racism when we see it, and to better elevate Black perspectives and experiences within our birding community.
We also encourage you to listen for Nate's commentary about birds named for people of questionable (or worse) reputation, and how they should be changed.
