Located on the Northwest side of Chicago, LaBagh Woods has resumed its restoration work for this year. Despite the on-going pandemic and the shelter-in-place order, volunteers are enthusiastic about restoring these iconic acres of land for the migratory birds this summer.
In a feature on WTTW recently, Chicago Audubon's board member Radhika Miraglia and her kids actively participated in building a high-quality bird habitat.
The volunteers have cut down unwanted trees, removed invasive shrubs, and spread seeds for native plants. This restoration work promotes 4 levels of vegetation needed for the birds: camopy, understory trees, shrubs, and a herbaceous layers. With over 200 species identified, LaBagh Woods has become the area's most significant spot for bird sightings away from the lakefront.
